David B. Bonham, Ph.D

David Bonham is a registered patent attorney with the intellectual property law firm of Seager Tufte Wickhem LLP. His practice focuses on patent portfolio strategic development, management and evaluation, patent prosecution, and patent landscape and clearance studies. David’s technical background gives him expertise in a range of fields, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, bioengineering, polymer chemistry, chromatography, electrochemistry, semiconductor processing and analysis, nanotechnology, and industrial chemicals.

Prior to joining Seager Tufte Wickhem, David was a principle at Kacvinsky Daisak Bluni from 2014 to 2022 and, before that, a partner at Mayer & Williams PC. David began his law career with the intellectual property law firm of Kenyon & Kenyon. In his career, David has prepared and prosecuted more than 300 patent application families for major manufacturers of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, chromatography equipment, vaccines, semiconductors, semiconductor processing equipment and organic light emitting diodes. He has also overseen numerous clearance studies and drafted many opinions for clients introducing new products.

David earned his JD at the Georgetown University Law Center. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, he has PhD and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia, with research topics in the areas of semiconductors and bioengineering, respectively, and he has a BS degree in Chemistry from Roanoke College. David’s research has been published in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Journal, Biotechnology and Bioengineering, and the Journal of the Electrochemical Society. He is a registered patent attorney and is admitted to practice law in Virginia and Washington, DC.
